Huge dry lake with lots of space. Hard sand. It's 7 miles long and 3 1/2 miles wide. Excellent for speed runs. International championship racing with pro landsailors, Manta landsailors, Blokart racing, kite buggying, landboards, dirtsurfers, etc. Land sailing and kiting are just some of the activities this dry lake is used for. You can bike on the playa as well just no ATV's, Dirtbikes or cars can be on the main lake bed. It is protected and that's how we get our super smooth plays to go super fast.

Many international windseekers come here for the events Mid March through 1st week in April where the spring winds kick in strong. The playa is great as it's so smooth and you just rip across the lake bed exceeding 50-80mph or more. All wind directions are good there. Winter NW winds blow all winter, spring NW and SE winds prevail, summer blows SE strong winds but too hot to play on the playa so best to go in the summer evenings when the sun gets behind the mountains. Look up NALSA for the big speed sailing trials and races, Blokart landsailing, Manta landsailing, NABX for the kite buggy competition and landboard competition as well their big campouts. So fun to participate.

The lake is located on I-15 on the California/ Nevada border (Primm, Nevada). Get there by car. Behind the Lotto center and Outlet mall there's an opening in the fence to get onto the drylake. Follow between the two brown stakes where cars drive. Drive 1/2 mile or 1 mile down to wide open smooth playa. Rig up and ride.
Extra information
Contact the Needles BLM office Elaine Downing and she will mail you a free 1 year usage permit to get onto the drylake. You get a permit every year. A ranger patrols on the weekends and he checks. The permit is good for a group of kiters say 5 or 6. The permit is free and post it in your front window there. Needles BLM office and they are online and have a website. Really nice people and their rangers are very helpful. This dry lake is closed to motorized vehicles like ATV's, Dune buggies, Motorcycles. Only wind powered vehicles are allowed.
