Works very well on a NE wind with an incoming tide. Good flat water kiting in the river and river mouth and good wave riding a little further out. Waves are usually around 4ft. Stay as far upwind as possible as not to be a hassle to other water users.

Beautiful sandy beach approx. 1km long. N problems to launch or land a kite. Grass at the car park to rig your gear. Car guards can assist in pumping up kites, launching and landing.

From October to March the wind blows from E and NE. Usually 2-3 days per week. The strongest wind is normally in October and November with 22-28 knots. In December to March expect 12-20 knots with the odd stronger day. If the wind blows early in the morning from East, it's going to howl. Works only in E and NE winds.

If coming from Port Elizabeth (coastal road), go along Fleet Street, past the traffic circle toll the 2nd set of robots (Currie Street) turn right, this will take you along the beach front (check out the wind), carry on till the end. You will be forced to turn left, take next right, continue with this road up the hill, through the 4 way stop through another 4 way stop, down the hill till the intersection, turn right up the hill, turn right at the stop street down the hill, past the caravan park on your left and turn in at the boom gate. Find a parking and rig your gear. If coming from the Durban side, take the Pearce Street, Gleneagles off ramp, turn left at the robot and keep in the right hand lane. Through the stop street, carry on straight until the next 4 way stop, turn left and past the next 4 way stop down the hill till the intersection, turn right up the hill, turn right at the stop street down the hill, past the caravan park on your left and turn in at the boom gate, find a parking.

Stay out of bathing area, listen to life savers or other local riders. Outdoor cafe 500m away, serves lunch breakfast etc. Camping facilities or Bed&Breakfast nearby. Friendly locals, obey the lifeguards.

Nightlife

Right across the river from where you ride you will find the Highlander pub at the Blue Lagoon Hotel. Open all nights during season, otherwise Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
