Very long, sandy beach. A few rocks, and some seaweed now and again. High tide unsuitable as for no launching space due to harbor wall and dunes.

Water rarely below 7°C, wetsuit advised. Normal wetsuit, minimum 3/2 short arms for peak of summer, but no shorty! Season good April to October. Rarely gets very cold, maximum temperature of air is around 20°C. Can rain a lot in winter. Average water temperature of 10°C.

The beach curves. To the north N and S are sideshore, and to the south E and W are sideshore.

From Inverness east on A96 towards Elgin. Before Elgin turn to Burghead. The bay is SW of Burghead. For WNW winds park at Rose Isle (£1 during summer) for SW park next to the camper van site.
