Long, sandy beach with lots of space. Gets very crowded on during June, July and August with beach-goers, especially on weekends. However, during June, July, August there is almost never any wind.

Bring all your gear, from strong to light wind gear. Spring and fall are best. Almost no wind from mid-June through mid-August. You're lucky to get one day of wind in a 2 week period during the summer.

From Virginia Beach take either the 60 along coast or 279 up north. 60 becomes Shore Drive and leads west. Stay on the road and you will pass by the state park. If you take 279, you will get onto 60, take it eastwards and you will pass by the state park as well.
