Most time of the year consistent SE winds blow, but especially April to September with 20-30 knots. During summer lighter northerlies are common, but it can also have good SE wind days. ESE and SE are very constant, SSE is gustier.

South of Cooktown. You need a 4x4. Take Cooktown Developmental Road and turn off onto Quarantine Bay Road. Just before the golf course turn right onto a dirt road and follow it to the beach. You can ride here at the Walker Bay or drive further south to the river mouth. Here you can park and camp as well. Launch from the sand spit.
