  • Welcome to Kite Foil racing at the US Nationals! Sailed off Montrose beach in Chicago, IL. The beach shoots straight out into Lake Michigan 1/2 a mile allowing foil racing in any breeze direction while still getting city views. The regatta will be run by Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club which has a long history of running good sailing events, and is a great place to hang out after racing. There will be 3 days of racing. There will be divisions for open, inflatable and FRX. There should be good competition for many skill levels so everyone should feel comfortable to come out and race. The majority of racing will be windward-leeward buoy racing. If conditions permit we will attempt to run one longer distance race as well. A new concept that will be debuted at this event will be the Green Fleet. This is aimed to get first time racers an easy way to jump into the racing. It will be only 2 days of racing. Saturday morning will begin with a classroom lesson to cover the basics of starting, navigating the course, right of way rules and some racing tactics. From there you will go out on the water and do a couple practice races without the rest of the fleet. After a short break you will jump in with the rest of the fleet at the start and race a smaller course so the races will take about the same time as the other classes. The timing is a perfect time to ride on lake Michigan. The water is still warm from the summer and the strong fall winds are starting to blow. It should be a great event, I can't wait to see everyone in September!!
