Water on the insides very flat and shallow. Large sandbars exposed at low tide - and current can be strong in some places, but very easy to see. Flat water areas are enormous. On the windward side, open ocean riding - can be nice waves, but small beaches are surrounded by rocks and cliffs. Care should be taken.

Beautiful beaches - and lots of them. White sand, some shells. Rocks around the island, and are particularly sharp on the windward (East) side. Small private beaches are located on the north side of the island, but it's not recommended for kite launch. Best kite beaches on Wax Cay are on the Southwest side. Fantastic beaches on the small neighboring islands and cays. Easily accessible with small boat. Launching possible from any wind direction- just pick your beach! Low tide sand bar, located 10 yards off of north shore, offers superb launching when exposed. Better not to leave gear on the beach, as it will be washed away with the tide.

Wind season October to May. Summer breezes in the afternoons. August/September lowest winds. Fantastic riding on any wind direction, but small boat necessary to access surrounding islands. Any West wind puts you in the most beautiful flat water! But, so does any North or East. Riding is possible off of the north, west and east sides of the island. NE wind can be both sideon and sideoff. N wind can be onshore relative to cottages, but sideoff to west beaches. Directions given below are considered from the west shore.
