A wetsuit is necessary nearly all over the year. The water is between 5-20°C (spring to summer), air temperature is in the average 18°C (in summer) and can go up to 30°C. If you have the adequate wetsuit you can surf from April to November. In high summer riding with just shorts possible, but only for a short time. Off-season is possible but very cold.

Wind Type:
Frontal

SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW

Works only in a few wind directions. E and SE are the best, Northerlies are gusty and sideoffshore. W and SW are also ok. NW is gusty. Winds depend on depressions which mainly are westerlies. But also often nice Easterlies.

How to get there

Transport
Car
Access
Short walk

Get to Sylt either via car train or the cheaper alternative is via ferry from the island Romo (Denmark). From Westerland drive up north towards Kampen and then List. Before List turn left at the signs to Ellenbogen. From List find the signs to Ellenbogen. Before you enter the Ellenbogen, you have to pay to access it. Follow the road (drive carefully and watch out for sheep) until you see the water to the right very close. Find the small parking lot (first one to the left) and the kite beach. Windsurfers park further to the end of the road.

Extra information

Rules
Zones, Fees

Special kite beach and zone. Do only kite here and do not kite beyond the white buoys. Windsurfers start further to the end of the road. Always be aware that you are on a private property and kiters are only tolerated. Be careful, the water gets really flat. Do not kite on the north beach of Ellenbogen, since there is a strong current which can suck you out to the open sea.

Nightlife

Small nightlife in Kampen and Westerland, mainly in summer.
