A huge shallow lagoon, where you can almost stand everywhere. At the south side of the island and its lagoon is a big reef, which is the end of that atoll. The water is flat and can be a bit choppy when the wind is stronger, but still very nice riding. Maldives have a tide, but the lagoon at the nautical center will always be deep enough for windsurfing as well.

The beach has very white and smooth sand - just beautiful. There are corals around the island, but at the main water sports area it is no problem. If you have problems going upwind, I recommend wearing shoes, since the big reef is not too far away. At the east beach of Sun Island at the Nautic station you have an excellent beach with lost of space to launch and land the kite. The beach is never that packed, only few people around. And on the water it is normally very empty.

All year the water and the air is excellent warm. Maybe a rush guard, but normally shorts is all you need. The air has around 28-32C° and the water about 28C°. The best time to go is December to March, mainly sunny and very consistent winds. The Maldives have a rainy season in the European summer, so check carefully when planing your trip.

The best winds combined with the best weather are from December to March. The wind will mainly blow from North and is very consistent (4-6 Bft/10-23 knts). Normally the Maldives have light winds,in the rainy season stronger. This spot works for all directions and always has sideshore winds.
How to get there

Access
|
Short walk |
Male is the closest airport and the capital of the Maldives. From around the world mainly charter airlines will approach Male. From Male Sun Island is about 100km (62 miles) further Southwest. The speed boat needs about 4-5 hours from Male and the seaplane (more exciting!) about 45-60 minutes. Your gear will come with the speedboat.
Extra information
Make sure your gear goes back with you when leaving the island, since the seaplane can be full and not enough time for the gear to arrive with the boat before you depart.
Nightlife
No nightlife, just the hotel bar.
