Water

Type:
Flat, Small wave
Hazards:
Ships, Wave breaker, Mole
Quality:
Cloudy
Best Tide:
High tide

Stay well away from the harbor wall. The best riding is 3 hours either side of low tide. The shore break can be very nasty around high tide when there is a swell, sometimes almost impossible to get out if the wind is dead onshore. Rock groynes (apart from the Eastern end of the beach) are a hazard at high tide when the sea state is rough (or when wind is from the south). Along with Lancing, the beach is the best in the area for low tide sailing as it is sand bottom and not to shallow (never a long walk to the water). The beach is zoned in summer, stay in the kite zone and watch out for the bucket and spade brigade.
