Water

Type:
Chop, Medium wave
Hazards:
Currents, Wave breaker, Rocks, Stones
Quality:
Clean
Best Tide:
Tide independent

The water is very deep close to shore. There are no tides and when there is enough wind a lot of waves and chop occur. The beach break is short but violent, it is difficult to go in and out of the water. Safest is to bodydrag out to deeper water to avoid hurting yourself on the rocks on the bottom. The water becomes deep very quickly, you cannot stand anymore just meters from the shore break.

The beach is full of rocks and driftwood which are a big thread for your (tube)kite. The beach is long but narrow, around 15 to 20 meters. Launching is difficult, behind the beach there are trees, buildings and rocks. The stones are big one the beach, which makes walking (especially without shoes) difficult. Since the wind is sideshore most of the time you have to launch using a few small roads to get the extra width.

Extra information

Rules
None

It is a dangerous place because there is no rescue facility available. At the end of the beach there is a sharp, dangerous rock formation going out to sea for 10 meter which will prevent you from getting blown away in the next bay. This bay is situated within high cliffs, so no wind there. Next possible place to go back on-shore would be Kokkari. A big hazard, so please go upwind as much as possible. There is no rescue and the beach is pretty deserted. I would not recommend to kite here on your own. There is a small bar which rents beds and umbrellas, sells drinks and some snacks.

Nightlife

Only in Kokkari and Samos town.
