The water is choppy to flat, depending where you are on the lake. Fortunately the water is not so deep, and you can stand up at many points in the water.

The lake is surrounded by cornfields, so the correct launch spot is important. The beach is hard packed dirt, so be careful, and the mud as you get in the water is quite slippery as well.

We just barely discovered the spot, so are not so sure about the wind, but most times we have gone there it is windy, and most of those times quite strong. About 15-25 knots. The wind was quite constant most times we have been there. The best direction is North, because there are no mountains on the North, so the wind comes in cleanly. South is very gusty and frontal, there are mountains on the West, East and South sides of the dam. Also, the lake stretches from North to South, so North wind is perfect with many many sideshore spots. There is not much possibility of wind during the rainy season, which goes from June to late October, with rain almost everyday. But if the day is windy, it is quite possible. It is a lake, quite large, so every wind direction is kiteable.
How to get there
Transport |

Access
|
Short walk |
From Mexico City take the `Carretera de cuota Mexico-Queretaro`, and in kilometer 104 take the exit that says `Calpulalpan`, then go straight on the road for about 6 km until you see a sign on the right side of the road that says `Presa Huapango`, take it for another 8 km and you are there. Only way to get there is by car. It is nice, because it is only about 1:15 hr drive from Mexico City without traffic.
Extra information
It is recommendable to use booties, as the beach is hard packed dirt, and you never know what you will step on in the water. The water is cold, so be cautious. Make sure you take everything you need, there is nothing, a few stores with chips and soft drinks etc in the little towns, but that is it, take toilet paper, towels, etc.
