Current can be substantial, so downwinder may be advisable. Best on an outgoing tide with a wind with a easterly component. Can either stay on flat water or venture into excellent waves in the mouth of the inlet. Riders should be advanced level to ride here! Unless you have a boat to take you to disappearing island. Also, need to be religious on checking tide, wind, weather info every few hours.

It is best to stay near the area with no car access, otherwise you have to stay 100 yards out. Launch on the inside of the inlet from the New Smyrna side, either drive down the beach or park at Smyrna Dunes Park and walk down the boardwalk to the inlet.
