No tide. Big shallow area. The water is flat and with stronger winds choppy. In strong winds you can have small but nice waves on the sandbar, specially with NE wind. In summer lots of seaweed can be a hassle, specially for windsurfers. Small stones up to 5m into the water, walk carefully.

Small sandy beach with small stones. In summer it gets very pact with windsurfers, kiters and sunbathers. Kiters should watch out during summer for seaweed, which easily gets tangled in the lines causing problems at the launch. It's a surfer's beach, but do not go onto the beach north of it, behind the fence.

Access
|
Short walk |
From Hamburg or Luebeck over the highway 'A1' exit at Neustadt. Then you follow the signs to Pelzerhaken. The street goes a bit downhill and then before it makes a hard left curve, drive straight to the surf beach on a small road. Use the first parking entrance to your left and drive to the end of it. During season you have to pay for parking.
Extra information
Surfing is prohibited in the swimming area (marked by white balls in the water to the left) from May to September. Watch out for many windsurfers one strong wind days since it is almost the nearest beach from Hamburg and Luebeck. Stay upwind of them. Do not enter the dunes to pack/unpack your gear - strongly forbidden! Watch out for slick stones on the water and stay away from the beach to the north behind the fence. Do not enter the Sauna beach. Be careful in northerly winds, if you loose to much height, the beach curves making northerlies offshore.
