High tide

Super flat on offshore (East and South East days). Tiny chop on NW, North, and North East days. Waist deep for kilometers.

Beach

Type:
Grass, Sand, Rocks
Size:
Small
Hazards:
None
Beach Users:
January, February, March

Small beach at the camp site requires that all kiters roll up their lines when not on the water. Assisted launches recommended. Beginners and intermediates need only walk into the lake in ankle deep water with their assistant for safe launches.

Weather

Spring:
Shorts
Summer:
Shorts
Fall:
Shorts
Winter:
Shorty

Even though in Mexico, beware the "Nortes" as the air can get a bit chilly. Most of us use shorties when it blows from the north, especially if overcast, but on all other days you are fine in shorts and a lycra rashguard.

Wind

Best Months:
January, February, March
Wind Type:
Frontal
Best Direction:
N, NNE, NE, WNW, NW, NNW
Main Direction:
N, NNE, NE, ENE, E, ESE, SE

You can kite all directions of wind here. Northwest, North and Northeast preferable as they come in clean and strong and the `tide` is higher by a few inches. East and Southeast are better kited at the "Dos Suemos" site because the offshore wind comes across from the ocean to the lagoon clean with less turbulences. Season lasts from December to May.

How to get there

Transport
Car, Bus
Access
No walk

Take the Bonompak extension which is the continuation of the Bonompak 3 lane artery of Cancun once it crosses the road of "Lopez Portillo". Drive until you are in front of the Car Ferry that goes to Isla Mujeres. You will be at the proverbial end of the road. Hang a left onto the hard packed dirt road which leads into the Ritzy Golf and marina development called "Playa Mujeres". Drive for 20 minutes on the well maintained dirt road until you pass the "cabanas" of Capitan Morgan. One more kilometer on your odometer will bring you to the left hand turnoff and, if the wind hasn't been too strong, there should be a sign that says Ikarus.
