When it is windy there is a 1-2m wave. The waves are not really clean and most of the times choppy, but you can pretty good rip them, anyway. East wind makes a bigger wave than West wind. Northeast makes the biggest waves. Take care, every 200m is a mole, but you can ride behind them. About 20m shallow. Flat water between the moles. At about 200m from shore there is a shallow sandbar about 50m wide.

There is a lot of space to built up you kite on the dike (dam). But take care about the signs, you are not allowed to kitesurf everywhere. When there are windy days there will be lots of windsurfers. The beach itself is crowded in summertime. In the other seasons you will not find lots of beach tourists. The sandy beach about 20-50m wide.

A wetsuit is necessary nearly all over the year. The water is between 5-20°C (spring to summer), air temperature is in the average 18°C (in summer) and can go up to 30°C. If you have the adequate wetsuit you can surf from April to November. Off-season is possible but very cold.

East wind is very constant. West wind is not so constant, but quite often.

From Kiel take the B502. You need to go about 20km just straight ahead. Then go left to `Heidkate`. You will reach directly the beach. For surfing take the left parking space (in summertime 2 Euro).

Pay attention to all signs. Watch out for the moles. Heidkate and Brasilien are pretty much the same, but the wind directions are different. Not a beginners beach due to the moles. Please do not kite in the bay of the surf school. Main beach for Kiel in West wind. Camping about 1km away.
