This water is only choppy in high winds as the fetch is about 8 miles to the east, usually very flat is it's protected on 3 sides. No real waves, just chop. Tides range up to 30 feet - Anders's beach is ridable starting with +12 tides up to the +22. Tide goes out a mile or more. The water can be shallow at times, or deep. A few reefs ENE about a half mile, otherwise just a few small rocks and lots of flat soft sand/mud bottom for miles.

Gustafson Spit is the best access point into East Kachemak Bay - coarse sand spit with steep sides coming up from a flat bottom. Ample room for launching, especially with help as it's a collector spot and usually has dried kelp on it.

Weather

Summer:

Winter:

The water gets warm, about 60°F during the summer on an outgoing tide. Filled with ice floes from November through April. A wetsuit or drysuit is definitely needed even though the water can get pretty warm, you want one so that you can ride the cold water on the other side of Homer Spit on the low tide. It rains a lot but not hard.

No information
Best Direction:
SE, SW
Main Direction:
ENE, SE, SW, WSW

Dominant ENE winds through the winter when it's probably iced anyway, WSW day breeze in the summer. Systems usually blow SE/SW. Every wind coming off the water is clean, except the offshore NW and N wind. Since it's a sheltered spit almost every direction is ridable.
