The launch used to be at Bonnabel Boat Launch. Now we launch at the Bucktown Marina. Walk out in the water and figure out the best path through the rocks before you put the kite in the air. The water is shallow out about 100 yards. Flat to choppy water. Look out for a submerged pilings near shore.

Walk out in the water as far as possible before you start riding. Avoid riding near shore due to underwater hazards.

Hot and humid in the summer. Wetsuit in the winter time when cold air from the fronts blow through. Water temps varies with the seasons. Very warm in the summer and cools off to wetsuit temperatures in winter. You need boots for rocks.

Usually ride here on cold fronts in the winter. Fairly constant NW 15-20+ Most cold fronts come in with wind early in he morning dying by noon. On other conditions watch the clouds for unexpected gusts from thunderstorms. Hurricanes and tropical storms send wind through from late summer through October.

From I-10 exit to West End Blvd. and continue towards the lake. Take a left onto NO Hammond Hwy, cross the famous 17th Street Canal. Road over the levee is on right.

This launch area is a cooperative effort with the local government. Please, no trash, no loud music, be nice to everyone. Not suited for kitesurfing beginners.

Nightlife

Many choices to go crazy in New Orleans. The bars and restaurants across the levee are great. Try an Oyster Po Boy sandwich.
