Nice and warm during summer. Fall and spring needs a long wetsuit, during winter a thick wetsuit. Water temperature in the kiting season ranges between 45-70°F.

During summer the SSW thermal wind blows, which is the best direction here. Fall to spring mainly NE winds with cold fronts. After 2-3 days with SW winds, the wind switches to West winds, which don't work well here.

The island is located in the middle of the sound, therefore it can only be accessed by boat. Closest harbor is in Waretown.

Don't ride too far east in the bird sanctuary reserve and stay out of the boating channels (about half a mile south and north of the island).

Nightlife

20 min drive to LBI from Waretown (or no drive if came by boat from LBI), plenty of nighlife in the summer.
