Water

Type:
Flat, Chop
Hazards:
Currents, Reefs, Corals
Quality:
Crystal clear
Best Tide:
High tide

This can be a challenging location. There are strong currents flowing north/south between the islands during max tidal exchange. In combination with the often rather weak winds, this means that it could be hard or impossible to relaunch your kite if the wind and current are in the same direction. Make sure to get information on the tides and current from any of the local dive shops before heading out, and pay close attention to keeping an island downwind of you at all times. If you get swept passed the islands, your next stop is Borneo across the Java sea. Around the very southern tip of the island is a shallow coral area which may be possible to cross during high tide, but you definitely don't want to fall off your board in that area so do not attempt any tricks there.

Beach

Type:
Sand, Pebbles
Size:
Medium
Hazards:
Rocks, Shells
Beach Users:
None

The beach to the south of the Villa Ombak luxury resort is narrow, but still the most suitable place to launch if winds are blowing from the SSE or SE. Over on the southwestern side of the island, the beach is wider and there are only some coral, but this side works only in SW winds.

This is definitely not a beginners location.

Nightlife

A lot of nightlife on Gili Trawangan and a very relaxed atmosphere. For a more quiet time, stay at Gili Meno instead.
