The water conditions depend on the Atlantic wave and on the strength and direction of the prevailing wind (NE-East). Northeast wind: flat water, East wind: slightly choppy. Good conditions for jumping and wave riding thanks to the ocean swell which can reach 1.5-2m. The underwater bottom consists of fine white sand.

The beach stretches for about 1 mile and consists of soft white sand. The beach curves gently into the wind on the downwind end of the bay, so if anything happens, you always end up back on the beach. The kite surfing area is about 1 km by 1 mile and there is always plenty space on the water.

The windy season goes from November to July. The steady trade wind blows unobstructed side to side onshore from the left (NE/East wind). The wind is pretty constant from early morning to mid-day. It is generally lighter from 12.00pm to 2.00 pm and it picks up again pretty steady after 2.00 pm until late afternoon. Strong, steady trade winds from December till May.

The airport runway runs just north (and upwind) of Sandy Beach the entire 1.5 x 1 km bay of Sandy Beach. All soft sand, no rocks or reefs to worry about. Safe but exciting.

Nightlife

There are a handful of bars and restaurants on Sandy Beach, including The Reef Beach Cafe, Island Breeze and Coastline, so there is always something to eat & drink. Occasional beach parties take place as well. Vieux Fort town is 1 mile away, with mostly daytime roadside restaurants. Friday and Saturday nights are popular for impromptu barbecues and 'rumshop' events.
